Christopher Johnson
Sales Account Manager, Clariant
Christopher’s chemical career began at Ingevity in 2014, where he served as an Applications Chemist supporting TORE tackifiers for the adhesive market. In this role, he gained broad, hands-on experience across product development, technical services, and plant support. He later transitioned into synthesis, where he contributed to the development of new material grades while optimizing the existing product portfolio. In 2022, Christopher moved into a commercial role as a Technical Sales Account Manager, bridging the gap between technical expertise and customer-focused solutions. This experience sharpened his ability to translate complex chemistry into real-world value for clients. In 2025, Christopher was proud to join the Clariant Additives team. In this role, he support the Licocene® performance polymers portfolio alongside a broad range of offerings including flame retardants, stabilizers, and specialty additives.
Sustainable Hot Melt Polymer Solutions: The Licocene Terra Journey
Clariant’s Licocene Terra metallocene polyolefin (m-PO) polymers employ ISCC PLUS-certified mass balance methodology, enabling co-processing of renewable and fossil feedstocks within conventional steam cracker infrastructure while maintaining rigorous chain-of-custody tracking through independent third-party auditing. Renewable C2/C3 monomers derived from waste lipid streams (excluding palm & animal oil derivatives) are allocated to specific product outputs via verified material flow accounting, achieving Renewable Carbon Index (RCI) values of 50-100%. This approach enables renewable carbon integration without altering polymer synthesis pathways or requiring dedicated production lines, maintaining identical molecular architecture and thermomechanical properties relative to fossil-based analogues. This paper and discussion will delve into the use case and value proposition of Licocene Terra in woodworking and carpet applications.
