Dr. Qiang Luo graduated from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa with a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering in 2006. He has worked for more than 20 years in Adhesive and sealant industries. Dr. Luo was a senior researcher associate at Avery Dennison, a global technical service manager at Dynasol Group, a research and development manager at Lion Elastomers, a senior technical marketing manager at SI group, and a technology manager at Shihua USA Inc. He worked on adhesives for labels, industrial tapes, electronics adhesives, sealants and rubbers. Dr Luo now is the technical & business director at Tribridge Chemical Inc., based in Houston, Texas. Tribridge Chemical is a subsidiary of Risun polymer. He is responsible for overseeing business and technical aspects of the company’s business in North America region.

Silane Modified Acrylate-polyether Hybrid Polymer for Adhesive and Sealants.

Silyl-modified polyethers (SMP) are polymers terminating with a silyl group (Si-O-R). They can be cured by contact with moisture in atmosphere and represent a new generation of raw material for 1-component adhesives and sealants.  They are solvent-free and isocyanate-free. Adhesives and sealants made of SMPs have excellent environmental protection performance, great adhesion to various substrates, good mechanical properties, solvent and weather resistance. Its final products are paintable after curing.

Risun polymer, the technology leader of SMPs, offers products and services for all key global markets. Risun’s product portfolio includes TUPS polymers based on hydrosilylation chemistry and STPE polymers based on isocyanate chemistry. Risun also produces isocyanate functionalized silanes. SMPs have very good adhesive to polar substrates, such as glass, wood, cements. However, when comes to plastic substrates, such as PMMA, ABS, PP, it is a big challenge. Another challenge for SMPs is that they are vulnerable to UV and oxygen degradation. Risun polymer successfully addressed both issues with their unique acrylate-polyether hybrid technology. The new product showed much better adhesion to different plastic substrates with enhanced UV and oxygen resistance.
