Enhancing Quality Control in Two‑Part Structural Adhesives
Two part structural adhesives are essential in industries such as automotive, electronics, and general industrial manufacturing. To achieve proper curing and performance, these materials must be mixed at the correct ratio. Historically, manufacturers have relied on off line or indirect methods to evaluate mix quality, which can delay detection of off ratio conditions. When mix ratios deviate, adhesive properties can be affected, leading to rework, scrap, quality issues, and production downtime. 3M™ Adhesive Mix Monitor is a new to the world system that delivers real time, in process measurement of adhesive mix ratio at the point of dispense. The sensor captures electrical properties and temperature of the adhesive as it is dispensed. These data are processed through an adhesive specific machine learning model that evaluates mix quality. The system provides continuous feedback, enabling operators to identify issues immediately rather than discovering them after multiple parts have been produced. This supports improved process control, better adhesive traceability, and reduced waste. The solution integrates smoothly into existing production lines, offering manufacturers an efficient way to strengthen quality assurance without adding significant operational complexity.
